We have light.... Tue 18/11/08

Tue 18/11/08

Firstly, I have to say it was good to see many of the blogs come alive again this week. Most have been a little dormant for a while (holidays, construction issues etc), so to get some updates was very good.

We have progressed further this week. Not only do we now have switches and plugs, but we now have some current behind them....! Visiting the site at lunchtime today, there were sparkies everywhere, as well as a guy filling the expansion spaces in the bricks with a silicon (which I am happy about, as most of the original filling rubber was looking a little sick).

I now have a house full of Chinamans hats that come alive at the flick of a switch. Yes they look rather amusing, perhaps ugly even, but they will transform into downlights very soon..!

.

Per my previous entry, the downlights in the other kitchen cabinets will be the correct type, mounted under the cabinets. The 12v transformers are already wired in and sitting in the bottom of each cabinet awaiting a false bottom to be installed. Sorry no photo.
.

Now we do have a rather ugly bow in the bulkhead in our HT room...! Doesn't look much in this photo, but anyone with a good eye who visits the house has noticed it, including a good mate of mine who is a plasterer.
(Note to self. Avoid taking mates who are tradies through your new PD home.....)

Gas meter now in, as well as external lights.
.
Splashback is due tomorrow (yip') and hopefully garage door shortly after. Beyond that, there ain't a great deal left to do. Cookware, dishwasher, render finish, fly screen, repairs & patches.
Still no official dates yet.
.
I am interstate with work the next few days, and wont be back till midnight Friday. Will probably pick up a speeding ticket on the drive to the site on Saturday morning....!!

Wow.....not sure what to say. They are working hard at your place. Everything looks great.

Wow! I remember only a few weeks back when we were almost on the same time-line as you. We've been so pre-occupied with our hiccups, I haven't had time to catch up on all the blogs.

I'm absolutely loving your black QQ and those red tiles are gorgeous. I'm dying to see your Scorpion Mads (hmmm .. that almost sounds rude). Are the doors painted yet?

Gotta love those chinamans hats, but the downlights will set off your colour scheme beautifully.

Cheers
Liana

Guys,
PCI next week, house warming next. The Chinaman look great, its amazing what a bit of light puts on the subject. I recokon note to self is great, wish I had some tradie mates to give advice, lol.

That's terrific. You must be very close to PCI now. Something which we realised after handover was that the chinaman's (should that be China-person?) hats cover a multitude of sins. Imperfections in the ceiling may not show up now, but could be visible when you put downlights in. Just a thought.

Great to see things moving along.

Hi guys
Thanks for your comments. Yep, our progress over the last few weeks has been steady.

Toni. We are very close, although I am yet to get a firm date for PCI. Hopefully some notification very soon.

Liana. Thanks re the QQ and red tiles. Sue and I were always confident those red tiles would be a stand out in the powder room, although I am still yet to be convinced about the shower niche....! Will take a little more time.
The "Mads" (104s) have been painted (refer a few entries back). The colour is more a "dusty, dirty scorpion" rather than that explosive red I was anticipating. They need a good clean, so perhaps they'll come to life after that.

R&A. Yep, having a few trady mates can be a plus, but NOT DURING the build. They tend to find EVERY little fault, and have an absolute ball letting you know about it. Mates can be mean...!!)

Perry. Point taken re "Chinapersons". My experience is that downlights actually hide ceiling imperfections, which is handy as some sections of my ceiling are *^@^$@...!!

LOL - those China..err..person's hats DO look funny all lit up! DH's parents went to our place yesterday, and asked what they were...DH told them they were our feature lights (typical!)

You have shower screens!!!! I don't have any of those yet - they look great!! (another thing I never anticipated feeling excitement about, but there you go, that's what building does to you...)
As for your mates - tell them to shut up, or fix it for you!!!! ;-)

Hi Liana.
To answer you questions from other blog entry comments.

We definitely had ALL the cabinets wrapped in plastic. You can see this is my blog a few entries ago. I'm pretty sure they wrapped them prior to the roof being painted. By the time the walls were finished, some of the plastic was starting to fall away - result, a few small marks on the cabinets.
The painting on the 104s surprised us (more Suzi) a little, as we had assumed Scorpion on the inside as well. We never raised it, as we came to like the brighter coloured entry.

I'll have to recheck you blog to check your doors. You happy with the finish.

The reason I asked whether you got plastic wrap before the ceiling paint was started is because our ceiling paint was started yesterday (should have a blog post on that for you today) and you won't believe the "wrapping" we got!!!

You're asking me if our Mads have been painted? I bloody wish!!! Nowhere near that stage yet. More on that in my next blog post.

By default, PD won't match the paint for the insides of any external door with your external paint colour choice, unless you ask for it and pay through your nose, like we did!

Hi David, almost looks like you could move in now from the photos. Especially since you have shower screens, I thought they were almost the last thing to go in. Looking good though and glad to see some positive blog entries.
