A good day.. with a good finish - Mon 13/10/08

Monday 13/10/08. Visited the site late around 5pm this afternoon just as 2 young blokes were finishing off a very solid days work. All skirtings, window frames, shelves and internal doors & frames have been installed to downstairs. Most doors have additionally been installed to upstairs.

The boys let slip that SS had allocated an entire week to them to complete fixing, yet they are confident they will be 99% complete by tomorrow night. Will be concentrating on upstairs tomorrow.

Wasn't compelled to over-do it on the photos while they were working, so just a few for now.

Master bedroom..

.

Pantry. This look a little "lacking" at the moment. Still the main bench top to be installed against the external wall (to the right), which will wrap 90 deg' around the corner and fill the noticeable gap between current bottom and 2nd bottom shelves.
Additionally, Sue and I requested during contract that the 2nd shelf down be also extended 90 deg' around to the external wall (cost $50). Interesting that this is yet to be done from the photo, so a quick check with SS in morning..!!
.

And then, just as I was about to leave the site, Santa Claus arrived in a Kitchen delivery truck, fall to the roof with cabinets, boxes, draws, bench tops, cupboards etc etc. Other duties restricted me from sticking around and stocktaking my new assets, but needless to say that I was happy to see this.
Question to those who have progressed beyond this phase. Who installs the cabinets? Is it the fixing carpenters, or does someone else come in specifically for this task?

Hi D&S, sounds like things are really starting to move at your place. Once the architraves, doors, skirts etc go in, it starts to look a bit more home like I think. Here's hoping they finish inside the week.

I have no doubt that your two fixers will finish today. Our one did it in four days.

What a shame you couldn't stay to see the cabinets!!! Surprised you didn't go back for a midnight visit hehehe :-)

I'd love to see a photo of your linen shelves when completed to compare with ours. We have a weird bit stuck on ours.

Looking forward to seeing more pics in the next few days.

Hi guys,
If you didn't have too many structural variations (walls, doors, windows) or cabinet variations, your fixing will finish will probably finish within 2 to 3 days. It's amazing how fast these guys work.

Our fixing chippie didn't install the cabinets, but he did everything else. I don't know if that's standard practice.

You'll be pleased to know that our 4 ensuites, laundry and powder room cabinets and benchtops were all fitted in less than 4 hours!!

Great progress so far. Like H2B - I'm looking forward to more photos to see what Santa bought you.

Cheers
Liana

oh, forgot to say that we are having someone else install our cabinets (not the fixing carpenter) our SS has actually cancelled the first crew he booked in as he wasn't happy with the quality of their last installation.

That's amazing progress! Don't know about Lifestyle - the cabinet makers install the cabinetry for Prestige. We also had the cabinetry done before the fixing - must do things slightly differently. I bet S can't wait to see her kitchen in - that's such a highlight for us girls!!! Enjoy!

Bellebau. Agree with you re this phase of building, when you start to get a feel that this is a house coming together, and not just a constant delivery of building materials....

H2B. Will take some snaps and publish tonight, including any strange bits in the Linen closet.

L&R. SS confirmed this morning that cabinets will be installed by cabinet makers. He hinted they may start today. Will see tonight. I'd be a happy PD customer to roll up tonight and see garage started, cabinets started and fixing completed...!!?? Now I'm getting g greedy.

Petal. At risk of being unpolitically correct, S spends more time day dreaming in the laundry. The Kitchen & Pantry is more my domain...! Still nothing on Gordon Ramsey, although have been known to use colourful language at times...!!
