Tiles - Wed 5/11/08

Wed 5/11/08. Tiling commenced this morning.
Visiting the house at lunchtime, the tilers had completed the splash areas downstairs, but were begrudgingly loading the floor tiles back into their car. Reason? We had ordered 450X450mm tiles, but 300X300mm had been delivered. ggrrrrrr......

Some initial snaps
.

Kitchen niche. Note Quartz benchtops (Starlight Black) have been delivered and installed. The main QQ sections over the remaining benchtops have protective cardboard taped over them, so at this stage, the above is our only sneak preview.
.

QQ benchtops and tiles to pantry splash. Note kitchen already has a lived in look about it...!
.

A not too complimentary snap of our powder room splash (only just finished prior to photo). Camera has failed to do these justice. These against the "Stripple Seal" benchtop was one of those "wait and see" colour combinations. Looks ok.
.

Laundry. Another "wait and see" colour selection, which also looks ok. These are the tiles we have additionally selected for our shower walls.

oh you lucky beep beep beep! Tiles look great guys! Love the red in the p/room, it's a statement and looks really nice. I'm slightly envious....but very happy for you.

And your QQ!!!! Wow! Looks fantastic, you two must have been rapt to see this in. Can't wait to see the splashback in too :-)

All looks great, shame about the wrong sized tile getting delivered but lucky that someone picked up on it when they did. Hopefully the new tiles will arrive sometime next week so I can have a few days to catch up :-P

Hi David

Looking good mate, nice red tiles.... Nice benchtops too. The QQ is much better than laminate, much easier to clean as well. Looks like your slightly ahead of toni...

Simone and I were in your estate yesterday afternoon, we tried to find your place but couldnt. Hope all goes well for a xmas handover. Nice chrissie present for you guys...

I have organised 3 screen doors for our place, crimsafe stainless steel, from Renma......good price and great quality. I can forward the details if you're interested.

Love those red tiles!!!! They are simply stunning and yes, the kitchen does have that "lived in look' about it. I really think that kitchens make the house start to look like a home, great colours too. Pity about the floor tiles, at least you will get the right ones laid first time instead of having to get them pulled up and redone.

Thanks all

Toni. We are happy to tick off the white splash tiles against the black QQ. This was always one of those "fingers crossed" scenarios. One uncertainty down, a few to go.
Thinking the red splashback against the black QQ is going to look great.
Really glad that the tilers not only identified the wrong size tile, but DIDN'T lay them and hope we wouldn't notice...!

Andy. You should have given us a call. Would have caught up and given you a tour. Next time maybe.
I think internally, we are a few days ahead of Toni, but externally they are about a week in front.

Bellebeau. You may have noticed I have this thing about red. From tiles to splashback to front entry etc. Think it creates a real liveliness to a room or entrance.

Kitchen looks great! The only suggestion I have is to cover your sink, because the tradies will not give a stuff about how nice your kitchen is. We had a large bit of cardboard with cutout for the tap, and them put bubble wrap around the tap. Even after the protective board was pulled off, the painter who came in to do some touchups put his paint pot on the quantum quartz bench! Grrrr! Looks great though.

Hi Perry. Good to hear from you. You missed a good catch-up the other days at Andys.
Some of the tradies (not all) have very little respect for most of the house, let alone the kitchen..! But point taken. Will see if I can lay something over the exposed areas.
How is house going?? You've been in for a few months now. Happy?

Sorry we couldn't get there - I feel left out as everyone has met everyone else! We had a commitment in Adelaide. We are about to have the 3 month maintenance inspection. The list is huge - we love the house, but the little issues are most annoying (and some of the just shouldn't be there). I'll do an update on our blog soon!

Perry, pick a date when you are free and let us know ;-)
